Little known fact about the Championship Banner #18

The Making of the Celtics Championship Banner
Behind the scenes, work began on the Championship Banner #18, which was going to be hung at TD Garden on opening night, October 22nd, 2024. Watertown Savings Bank's longtime business customer and one of Massachusetts's oldest private companies, New England Flag & Banner, creates hand sewn banners. The company is behind all of the Boston teams' Championship banners. The Celtics’s title banner is constructed from two pieces of nylon fabric that are laid out and sewn together with a white-opaque interlinear, so the letters do not show through on either side when they are sewn on and cut out.
Little Known Fact
A "lucky penny" is sewn into Championship banners under the New England Flag & Banner label! Finding a penny minted in the spring of the year when a Championship is won is very difficult. Still, Watertown Savings Bank employees were in charge of finding such a penny. Luckily, after searching through thousands of pennies, we finally found the one. "We will be sewing this 2024 penny from Watertown Savings Bank under the New England Flag & Banner label on the Championship Banner #18, which will be hung at TD Garden," said Ned Flynn, owner of New England Flag & Banner. "It's our way to bring luck to our customers, like the Boston Celtics, and we value our relationship with Watertown Savings Bank and their help in this process."
